Artists Bio
Moni Sears has been making masks and giant puppets in Portland since 1999 through a series of creative ventures including Goblin Art, Wildland Roots, PDX Monsters, and the Portland All Souls River Procession. Over that time, Moni has designed and created over a thousand handmade masks, and has taught mask-making to hundreds of students from youth to adult.
Rick Sears is a former professional puppeteer who toured with Portland’s Tears of Joy Theater and with the Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts, and has worked in character fabrication for Will Vinton Studios. His collaborative projects with Moni have come under both the Goblin Art and PDX Monsters labels.
Masks by Moni and Rick have appeared on the big screen (2006 Wicker Man with Nicholas Cage), have been used by musical acts (Iron Maiden), and have been sold to customers around the world (Cirque du Soleil Gift Shop, plus other art galleries and juried markets).
Giant Puppets by Moni and Rick have been seen in the Portland Winter Light Festival, the Portland Mardi Gras Parade, the Everything Under the Sun Parade, and various other processions and community events around Portland.
